Concede these first

• Fabric and comfort updates are not doctrine. A cotton blend replacing wool says nothing about truth claims, and treating it as scandal is the kind of overreach this site avoids.
• The Church’s stated position is that the covenant is the constant, not the cut of the cloth. That is a coherent frame, and it is the strongest version of the believing answer.

What survives the concession

The pattern, not any single revision, is the point. Each generation’s garment matched what that generation could be persuaded to wear, always a step behind the surrounding culture’s clothing norms: shortened after everyday fashion shortened, split into two pieces as underwear conventions changed, sleeveless as athletic wear became ordinary. Members in each era were taught the form they received was the sacred standard, and members who altered theirs ahead of the revisions were taught it was a covenant matter. Then the revision came, and the standard quietly became what members had already been asking for.

This is the same signature documented on the temple ceremony page: revelation that consistently arrives a generation after the social pressure is hard to distinguish from the social pressure.

Why this should make you question

Nothing here proves anything false by itself. It is one more entry in a ledger this site keeps returning to: the parts of the religion presented as fixed points, ordinances, garments, doctrines, policies, have moved whenever the surrounding world moved, on a lag, in the world’s direction. Fixed points do not do that.
